PA GOP Senate candidate who says he 'started with nothing' actually grew up in a mansion

Image
David McCormick, who is Pennsylvania's presumptive Republican U.S. Senate nominee, has often suggested he grew up poor in a rural community. But a new report finds that his upbringing was far more affluent than he's suggested. The New York Times reported Friday that McCormick — a former hedge fund executive who lived in Connecticut as recently as 2022 — has been cagey with voters about his childhood. McCormick has tweeted that he was "raised in Bloomsburg working on his family's farm," said on a 2022 podcast that he " started with nothing " and told CBS News that same year that he " didn't have anything " growing up as the son of two schoolteachers. But according to the Times , McCormick's father, Dr. James H. McCormick , was appointed president of what is now Bloomsburg University by Gov. Milton Schapp (D) in 1973. He moved his family into Buckalew Place — the official mansion for presidents of the school that currently spans 5...

Fox News host suggests Trump 'force' court to throw him in jail – by quoting him

Image
The Fox News host who targeted a juror serving on Donald Trump’s criminal New York trial is now suggesting the ex-president should violate his gag order and “force” the court to throw him in jail, by quoting the Fox News host. Jesse Watters came under fire earlier this week for profiling juror number two, sharing possibly identifying information published by a myriad of reporters but then using that information to pass judgment on her ability to serve. “I’m not so sure about juror number two,” Watters concluded on Fox News. Jurors, at the judge’s direction, were to remain anonymous, for their protection and the protection of the trial. The judge excused her, after she said she felt she was not able to be impartial because friends and family were calling her asking if she had been chosen to serve on the Trump trial, after the media blitz. New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan admonished the press for reporting the information, but some news outlets appeared to ignore his war...

Trump was 'fuming' after Judge Merchan made him sit 'like a man addressing his dog': report

As the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump isn't used to being reminded that he's now a criminal defendant. He got one stark reminder from Judge Juan Merchan on Friday, according to a new report. The Daily Beast's Jose Pagliery reported that during Friday's jury selection, Merchan had to tell Trump to sit down after he abruptly stood up before the judge finished his sentence. Merchan had just gotten through more than an hour of back-and-forth arguments with both the prosecution and the defense about a contempt hearing scheduled for next week, where Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is alleging that Trump has repeatedly violated the court's gag order. "Merchan turned his face to the former president and said in a firm voice: 'Sir, can you please have a seat,'" Pagliery wrote. "His long, black robes dangled from beneath his right hand as he waved it down, like a man addressing his dog." READ MORE: 'It has to s...

George Zimmerman defense consultant praises 'perfect' jury for Trump: 'Couldn’t ask for better'

Jury consultant Robert Hirschhorn, who was “instrumental” in helping acquitted Trayvon Martin killer George Zimmerman pick his jury, praised the selection in former President Donald Trump’s “hush money” case, telling CNN’s Erin Burnett “you couldn’t ask for a better jury out of New York.” Twelve jurors and one alternate were seated on Thursday at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse to hear District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against the former president. Trump is charged with 34 felony counts relating to “falsifying business records for his alleged role in a hush money scheme before the 2016 election,” CNN reports. Speaking with Burnett on Thursday, Hirschhorn commended the picks as “the perfect jurors” for Trump, insisting the former president’s “got a great jury.” READ MORE: 'No basis for that': CNN fact-checker debunks 4 of Trump’s biggest lies about his trial “Here's the takeaway from today, Erin,” Hirschhorn told CNN. “… The former president got another coup...
