Revealed: Trump convinced MTG to drop out of Georgia Senate race — here's how

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) won't be running in next year's Republican U.S. Senate primary in the battleground state of Georgia. And President Donald Trump's own team played a significant role in her coming to that decision.
That's according to a Thursday article in the Wall Street Journal, which reported that Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio commissioned the poll showing Greene losing by 18 points in a hypothetical general election matchup against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.). The paper reported that Trump was "determined to keep Greene out of the race" out of fears that she "wouldn't be competitive" in what the GOP is viewing as a must-win race.
In a statement to the Journal, Greene said that Fabrizio "refused to work for me because he says he has a conflict, which means he’s working for someone against me." She also slammed consultants who worked for Trump without criticizing the president directly.

"To my knowledge, a lot of this was private conversation, and apparently is being leaked," she said. "The same people telling Trump I can’t win a general [election] are the same people that get filthy rich off consulting on as many campaigns they can get the president to endorse."
Georgia has two Democratic U.S. senators for the first time in three decades, with Ossoff and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) representing the Peach State since 2021. And President Joe Biden flipped the state from red to blue for the first time since the 1990s. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) — a moderate up for reelection next year who represents a battleground state — said Greene would likely tank Republicans' chances if she were the party's standard-bearer in a Senate race.
“You need someone who’s more appealing,” Tillis said. “I think she’d be a solid primary contender, but the state’s a lot like North Carolina, could be a challenge at the statewide level.”
"Nobody cares about Tillis because he represents everything wrong in the Senate, and he has his own problems in North Carolina," Greene said in response to the Tar Heel State Republican's comment about her.
